One day, I was talking on the phone...
And it occurred to me, that if I can talk on the phone, I can earn a bunch with a regular job. And pay all my bills and keep a roof over my head.

How I Started in Telemarketing

When I was in my early twenties, I was hired by a home improvements company to cold call home owners and persuade them to accept an appointment with one of our sales reps.

The team and department were state of art for the time (the early 80's). They were agressive too. One of their rallying calls in the room was, "Jam those granny's". They meant of course, "write those appointments". But this was a telemarketing operation.

I eventually decided that I was a good enough telemarketer to find another job so I would not have to jam grannys. I was not comfortable calling people at their houses anyway.
